On Wednesday, October 11, 2023, Agustin (Nonoy) de la Cruz Guzman, died peacefully at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland after a short battle with lung cancer. He was surrounded by his family. Agustin was born on Sunday, February 28, 1954, to Antolin Ymbang Guzman, Sr and Onesima de la Cruz Guzman and grew up as a middle child in Patnongan, Antique, Philippines with four brothers and four sisters. Agustin graduated in high school from St. Augustine Academy in Patnongan, Antique in 1971 and then went to Philippine Maritime Institute Colleges in Manila, Philippines. He graduated with an Associates Degree in Marine Engineering. After graduating, Agustin was employed overseas as a chief marine engineer on the ship with Abacas Shipping Company. He then transitioned to be employed as a Supervisor Marine Engineer by Hiong Guan Navigacion in Japan for eight years before he came to the United States in December 1991. This is where he met and married his loving wife Elnora (Norie) in January of 1992. Agustin worked as a First Grade Stationary Engineer at Kernan Hospital for 28 years, Washington Adventist Hospital for 15 years, and Johns Hopkins Hospital for 5 years. Agustin loved to go to the casino during his free time to relieve his stress, eat steak and seafood, and especially loved to eat lobster. He also loved to garden and his backyard displayed a variety of plants and vegetables that he would use for cooking. Agustin had a talent and passion for electrical work and carpentry; a true handyman that could fix and build anything. He was a truly a fighter, the rock and man of the house and an extremely hard worker as he worked multiple jobs at the same time in order to make sure his family was safe, stable, protected, and fought to the very end. He will be missed by so many, especially his family in the United States and in the Philippines.
Agustin (Nonoy) is preceded by his parents, Antolin Ymbang Guzman, Sr and Onesima de la Cruz Guzman. He is survived by his dedicated wife of 31 years, Elnora (Norie) Salvacion Melgar Guzman; his loving daughters, Alora Salve M. Guzman, Reina Marie M. Guzman, Rhea Lynne M. Guzman, and Angela Anne M. Guzman; four dear sisters, Adelaida (Deding) Calibjo, Remedios (Baby) Guzman, Corazon (Nene) Aquino, and Catherine (Inday) Salmorin ; four dear brothers, Antolin (Dodong) Guzman,Jr , Rudy (Beboy) Guzman, Alwin Guzman, Juan (Uwa) Guzman, and dear uncle of Nonoy Francis, Ellen, Elvie, Eliza, Eulene, Easter, EJ, John Andre, Charlene, Rudy (KnutKnut), Chris, Justin, Gabriel, Chariza, Mary Rose, Wendy, Katrina, Onelene, Rey (King), Nikka (KayKay), and Julianne.
Family and friends may visit at the KIRKLEY RUDDICK FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday, October 17th, 3-5pm and 7-9pm. Visitation prior to Mass on Wednesday, October 18th, 10am -11am at the St. Lawrence Martyr Catholic Church. Mass to immediately begin after viewing, 11am. Entombment Glen Haven Memorial Park.
