Mr. Arthur Frederick Erhardt, of Glen Burnie, MD died on February 21, 2021 at the age of 90. He was born July 3, 1930 to Arthur Edward and Agnes (nee Litchfield) Erhardt. He was the first of their four children. Mr. Erhardt served in the United States Air Force from July 1948 to July 1952 when he was honorably discharged. Following his military service he worked for many years in the banking/financial industry until his retirement from the State Employees Credit Union in 1996. He was a member of the American Legion Post 0276 and the VFW Auxiliary Post 7315. Mr. Erhardt loved spending time with his family, especially teaching his children Lucretia, Anita and Arthur Jr. to play baseball, swimming and bowling. He was also an avid jigsaw puzzle enthusiast, a trait shared by his daughter Anita. Arthur and his son Arthur Jr. spent many an evening watching and talking sports. Mr. Erhardt was a dedicated supporter of Senior Softball. He played on and sponsored several teams over the years. Art was inducted into the Anne Arundel Co. Softball Hall of Fame in Nov. 1994 and the Washington-Metropolitan Hall of fame in April 2005. He played softball into his early 80's. In addition to softball, Art was also an avid participant in local volleyball and bowling leagues for many years. When not actually play a sport, Art could often be found at the Crabtowne Restaurant, playing keno and talking sports.
Mr. Erhardt was predeceased by his parents, his wife of 42 years Alice (nee Raurk), his brothers Robert and James, daughter Lucretia Ann Frederick, sister Mary, sisters-in-law Mary E. Sands and Mary T McNulty, his companion of many years Ruby Stevens, and his best friend of 50 years Don Gallagher. He is survived by his children Anita and Arthur Jr, cousin Dorthea Fondnazio (Carm), many nieces and nephews, his close friend Becky Gallagher, his "adopted" daughter Pam Boyd and "adopted" son Isiah McLaughlin. He will be deeply missed by his family and his many, many friends at Crabtowne Restaurant, the Glen Forest Senior Apartment Community and the Senior Softball Community.
A funeral with Military Honors will be held at Crownsville MD Veterans Cemetery Chapel on Monday, March 8 at 10 A.M. Due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions attendance inside the chapel is limited. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to do so may make memorial contributions to any Veterans Organization, American Cancer Society or local charity of preference.
