Bernard L. Golas passed away on June 11, 2014. Born December 15, 1928 in Baltimore, Maryland. He is the son of the late Alexander and Anna (Kulis) Golas. After discharge from the Navy in 1947, he worked for a contractor building Friendship International Airport. When Baltimore City took over operation of FIA he obtained a job as maintenance man and fire truck driver. In the year 1952 when the Air force Air Research and Development Command moved its headquarters to Baltimore City, he then obtained a position of Civilian Fire Fighter at FIA and rose to the position of Asst. Chief. When ARDC left FIA, the city of Baltimore kept some of the civilian fire fighters and appointed him Fire Chief. A position he held until his retirement in 1977. Mr. Golas enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching sports, gardening and he especially loved spending time with his grandkids. Bernard is survived by his wife, Wanda Golas of Hanover; daughter, Linda Golas of Lacassas, TN; step-sons, David Sayers of Glen Burnie, Harry Sayers of WV; step-daughters, Sandra Hitchcock of Severn, Susan Hardesty of Hanover; sister. Genieve Style of PA; 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, his is preceded in death by his brothers, Louis Golas, John Golas, Leonard Golas, Joseph Golas; sisters, Vera Balcer, Stella Yirka, Francis Cheicis, Bernadine Zorich and step-daughter, Marie Titus.
