Cevert Carroll Puckett (Pete), aged 90, Glen Burnie, Maryland, passed peacefully Monday, Dec. 20, 2021. Born March 14, 1931 in Tarpon, VA to a coalminer Arlie M. Puckett and Elsie May (Fleming) Puckett where he resided until his later teens when he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was one of 14 siblings. He had many fond stories of his favorite bluegrass singer Ralph Stanley from back home and enjoyed his festivals. Bluegrass was his favorite type of music. He enjoyed reminiscing about his country boy antics and stories of the coal mines and his hometown. Raised Baptist and attending services at the small country church in Clintwood, VA
He served proudly in the United States Army for 20 years, serving in Kentucky, Georgia, Maryland, and Germany, with a tour in Vietnam his last year of service, retiring August 31, 1968 as Staff Sargeant out of Fort Meade Maryland. During his tour in Germany, while riding in a jeep with his Army buddies, whistling at the ladies, he met and later married his lifelong partner Waltraud (Wally) Rosenberger January 22, 1955, in a traditional German wedding where they paraded through her hometown of Dudenhofen, along cobblestone streets, with the entire town following along.
After the Army, he proudly schooled for Master Carpentership while employed by J. Vinton Schaeffer, where he received recognition for being the first student to finish the course ahead of schedule by over a year, and received numerous awards, later also working for Page and U.S. Homes prior to retirement. He loved carpentry and building things, and along with his 3 sons building his own retirement home in Dover, Delaware, later returning to Glen Burnie Maryland to a home built by his 3 sons.
A true family man, his favorite things involved stories of family and visiting same. He and his wife journeyed back to Germany on many trips visiting family. A Loving and caring husband and father, who after retirement became the primary caretaker of his wife who became paralyzed. Cevert enjoyed life, loved watching the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens games as well as old Westerns and the comedy shows. He loved fishing, reading, and great jokes and laughter. He enjoyed fishing so much so that when he took his 6-year old grandson Joey fishing who when trying to cast his line for the first time, hooked his grandfather's ear. Cevert laughed about it and told Joey it was ok.
He is survived by Daughters Monika M. Platt (and husband Buzzy Platt), of Glen Burnie, MD; Rita L. Kendrick (and partner Willard S. Stumpf) of Capon Bridge, WV; Son Daniel P. Puckett (and wife Kim Lane), of Glen Burnie, Maryland; and daughter-n-law Toni Puckett. Also survived by grandchildren Christle M. Taylor, Jaime C. Kendrick, Stephen Crawford, Joseph P. Kendrick, Jr., Heather M. Clay, Robert W. Puckett II, Sydney R. Puckett, and Daniel A. (Tony) Puckett; and 8 great grandchildren. Also, is he survived by half-brother Tommy Puckett of VA and Randy Puckett of TN; half-sisters Joyce Henderson of TN, Janie Holbrook of VA
He was preceded in death by his wife Waltraud (Wally) Puckett; daughter Sandra Surplis, sons David E. Puckett and Robert W. Puckett; his parents, sister Gyeula Puckett, brothers Raymond Puckett of PA, Jay Puckett of VA, Ray Puckett of VA, Arlie Puckett, Jr of VA, and half-brothers Bobby Puckett of VA, Acy Puckett of KY, Billy Puckett of VA; half-sister Judy Zickefoose of OK
