Clarence Davis Scott passed away September 29, 2021 after a brief illness. “Pete”, as he was known to all his friends, was born In Weeksville, North Carolina on November 3, 1924. After graduating from Weeksville High School, he attended Mars Hill College and then served in the Army in Japan and the Philippines as a staff sergeant. While in the service, he corresponded with Melvia Warner of Baltimore. After returning to his family farm in North Carolina, Pete and Melvia began a long-distance dating relationship, where he would drive to Baltimore most weekends. The couple married in July, 1948, moved to the farm for a few months, and then back to Baltimore. In 1960, the family moved to Ferndale, where they lived for nearly 58 years, until Melvia’s passing in 2018.
Pete worked for several metal working companies, including American Can, National Can and Henry Steel. But when he retired from his full-time job, he was able to use his friendly people skills by working with several local caterers, and finally retired from this at age 85. He also was very active in the Ferndale Senior Citizen club, where he served as chaplain. As Road Runner chairman for 25 years, he arranged and coordinated at least 20 trips each year for the group. He also was a member of the Ferndale Community Club, American Legion and Ferndale United Methodist Church. Most mornings he could be found walking 3 miles at Marley Station Mall.
In May 2018, Pete moved to Easton, Maryland to an independent living apartment at Bayleigh Chase, where he made friends with many residents and enjoyed playing cards, games and bingo, and tending one of the gardens. He loved watching baseball, football and horse racing.
Pete is survived by loving daughters Suzann Lindsay (Robert) of Easton and Daviette Scott of Easton, three faithful granddaughters, Karen L. Sowder (Mark) of Roanoke, VA, Deborah L Bonham (Andrew) of Salem VA and Jennifer L McGuire (John) of Savannah GA, and twelve dear great grandchildren: Andrew, Kaylynn, Josiah, Matthias, Benaiah and Jamin Sowder, Ainsley, Carrington and Ewan Bonham and Sofia, Otillie and Edith Bee McGuire. He was predeceased by one sister, Mary Hollowell of North Carolina.
