Claudette C. Benfer

Born Claudette Catherine Phelps in Baltimore on July 20, 1940 to Charles Claude and Grace Phelps (nee Hommerbocker) she lived in Baltimore until she married her beloved husband of 52 years Richard K. Benfer, Sr. and moved to Glen Burnie. When her children were younger, she volunteered at North Arundel Hospital (now Baltimore Washington Medical Center) and was involved in the P.T.A., working in the health room at school and volunteering in her children's activities. An active member of Messiah United Methodist Church where she sang in the chior. After her children had grown she went to work as a teller for the Anne Arundel County Employees Credit Union where she worked for 26 years prior to her retirement in 2010. In her spare time, Claudette enjoyed Reading, Crafting, Movies and spending time with her grandchildren. In addition to her husband she is survived by her five loving children Thomas D. O'Donnell of Glen Burnie, Steven P. O'Donnell of York, PA, Richard K. Benfer, Jr. of Severna Park, Janice C. Johnson of Severn and Diane L. McHugh of Pasadena. She is also survived by Brothers Ronald Phelps of Nevada, John Phelps of Forest Hill, James Phelps of Baltimore, Sisters Holly Dale of California and Paula Hilton of Baltimore as well as seven adoring grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She passed away peacefully in her home on June 22 following a lengthy illness.
