Damian Kimberly Peterson

May 22, 1977 — August 30, 2018

Damian Kimberly Peterson, nẻe Janes died on August 30, 2018 at the University of Maryland Medical Center In Baltimore, Maryland after a long and heroic fight with Cystic Fibrosis. She was 41 years old.

Damian was born in Meadville, Pennsylvania on May 22, 1977 to Georgia Gates and William Janes. She was a loving sister to her older brother, G.N., and younger brother, Billy. Damian graduated from the American University in Washington DC in May 2000 and was married to LTJG Josh Peterson in Hanford, California on June 16, 2001. As a young Navy wife, she lived in many places throughout this great country, finally settling in Glen Burnie, Maryland with her family after their military service ended.

Damian spent her youth in Salem, West Virginia where she was an exceptional student, an accomplished violinist, and a Forest Festival Princess. As a teenager, Make-A-Wish granted Damian’s wish to attend the Interlochen Arts Camp in Michigan as a violinist, where she formed life-long friendships and inspired the best in people during four summers as a camper and a counselor. Despite significant health challenges, she persevered to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the American University. After graduation, she worked for several years as a grant writer and administrator for non-profit organizations.

After fighting valiantly against Cystic Fibrosis for over 27 years, Damian received a gift of renewed life in the form of a double-lung transplant at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center on February 23, 2005. She spent the next 13 years honoring that profound gift as an adoring mother to her son, Jackson; a devoted wife and companion to her husband, Josh; a faithful daughter, sister and friend; the best gift-buyer ever to her nieces and nephew; an award-winning home chef; and a true inspiration to all who came to know her. Despite all of the challenges she faced, Damian always stayed positive, never blamed others for her challenges, and never gave up. She will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her husband, Josh, and son, Jackson; her mother and step-father, Georgia Gates and Brough Jones; her father, Willian Janes; her step-mother, Peggy Janes; her brother G.N., her brother and sister-in-law Billy and Melissa Janes; her grandparents, Lois and Keith Gates; her nieces Sadie, Tessa, Mia and Brooke; her nephew Luke; and her dear pug, Kobe-Bean.
