On August 15, 2010, Donald Arthur Grieser Sr. of Edgewater, formerly of Inverness, Florida, passed away at the age of 87. Beloved husband of 56 years to the late Norma J. Grieser; Devoted father of Donald Jr. of North Carolina and Sharon L. Bolick of Edgewater; Loving brother of the late Paul Skibinski and Robert Grieser; Cherished grandfather of Mick Shove, Kimberley Seals, Olivia Grieser and Amanda Taaffe and great-grandfather of seven.
Don was born on April 13, 1923 in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He served his country as a member of the United States Army Air Corp during WWII. His two years overseas took him to England, France, Germany, Belgium, Luxemburg and Holland with the 9th Air Force Squadron. He worked as a glassblower making neon signs until he retired from Jack Stone Electric Sign Company in Landover, MD. National Geographic even ran an article on him once about his glassblowing artistry. He enjoyed biking and until just recently, he biked 9 miles every day. Don loved the beach and swimming. He was very artistic and excelled at woodworking, carving and painting. His favorite sculpture is an alabaster lion. The mediums he uses to create his objects of beauty are soapstone and polymer clay. At one time he was the only member of the Craft Council of Citrus County, but withdrew when Norma learned he was the only male among many women. Don also enjoyed fishing and reading a good book. Don lived in Glen Burnie until 1959 during which time he was a member of the Glen Burnie UMC and the Masonic Lodge #213, which he has been a member for over 60 years. He later moved to Edgewater and then, in 1990, he and Norma moved to Inverness, Florida where he lived for 20 years. During that time he became a board member of LIFE (Living Information For Today). It wasn't until just this year when he moved back to Edgewater to live with his daughter. Don's memorable milestones in life were getting his master electrician's license and being published in the 1983 edition of the National Geographic World Book "How Things Work". He believed strongly that people should "live for today, the present, and tomorrow, the future".
