Doris May was born the fourth of the five children of Harriet (Graham) and Richard Plews, in Quincy, Massachusetts where her father was employed in the shipyard. Shortly after her birth the family temporarily moved to Baltimore, Maryland for work, but returned to Massachusetts briefly where Doris completed the first grade in Weymouth. The next year the family permanently relocated to south Baltimore, residing at several addresses over the years. She was living with her family on Christian Street where she met the love her life, William Richard Eyring. They were married in Delaware. The Eyrings were living in Baltimore in 1939 when their first son, William Richard Eyring Jr. was born. After several years they moved to Marley Park, Glen Burnie, Maryland where they built a home at 113 The Greenway, now known as McGuirk Road. In 1951 their second son, Timothy Robert was born.
Mrs. Eyring was born again during the formational meetings of the Marley Park Church of the Nazarene, where she became a charter member. This later became the Grace Point Church of the Nazarene. Over the years she was involved there in children’s ministries in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Caravan Scouting, and Bible Quizzing. She also served as a local Board member, missionary leader as well as on several district boards. Her Christian life was characterized by a deep love for her Savior, a stalwart faith, and a vibrant prayer ministry that lifted a long list of family and friends to the Throne of Grace on a daily basis.
In 2013 she moved to Lillington, North Carolina to be near her two sons and their families. She continued her ministry of sending cards to loved ones and friends until the very end of her life, almost always including an encouraging verse of Scripture. Although she maintained her church membership as a faithful tithing member of Grace Point Church of the Nazarene, she also gave faithfully in support of the church plant of the Lillington Grace Church of the Nazarene where her son Tim serves as pastor. She was a vital part of the planting as a prayer warrior, outreach person and regular attender.
Doris was predeceased by her husband, William Richard Eyring, her parents, Richard and Harriet Plews, brother Richard Plews and his wife Helen, brother Albert Plews and his wife Catherine, sister Sarah and her husband John, sister Mona and her husband Harvey, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her son William Richard Eyring Jr. and his first wife Karen Lee.
She is survived by her son Timothy Robert Eyring and his wife Ardith, her daughter-in-law Maxine Eyring, grandsons William Richard Eyring III and wife Claire, Romey Duane Eyring and wife Darlyn, Warren R. Eyring and wife Tammy, and granddaughter Allison D. E. Nelson, as well as eight great grand-children, two great great grand-children and a host of beloved nieces, nephews and their extended families.
