Dorothy C. Miller was born on June 8, 1918, in Wilkensburg, PA, to Alex D. Crum and his wife, Gladies M. (Bible) Crum. She passed into glory on April 13, 2015 at the age of 96 in Linthicum, MD. She was a devoted wife to Ernest Miller who preceded her in death her in 1974, and is survived by her children Connie Wagner, Chris Persons, and Jeff Miller; five grandchildren (Scott Wagner, Becky Casey, Nic Stein, Jake Miller and Sam Miller); six great grandchildren (Liam Casey, Brigid Casey, Aine Casey, Jake Stein, Eli Stein, and Sadie Stein); and sister, Ethel Jorstad. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Connie M. Crum. She worked for various companies in Pennsylvania but was most proud of her service to the government at the Bureau of Mines during WWII to support the war effort. Much to her husband's and children's benefit, she was a housewife and stay-at-home mom during her children's formative years. She was a woman of deep faith and was very active in her church, Brooklyn Bible Chapel, spending over 30 years as a Sunday school teacher, serving as Registrar for a branch of the Baltimore School of the Bible at her church, and teaching a course on early childhood education. Her interests were diverse. She enjoyed painting and produced many beautiful oil paintings over the years. She loved reading and poetry and wrote several original poems, one in memory of the love of her life, Ernie. In harmony with her artistic bent, she loved music and had a beautiful singing voice, was an avid gardener and a member of the local herb club, and enjoyed making beautifully decorated cakes and candies. In her spare time she enjoyed solving crossword puzzles. You would often find Dorothy working quietly behind the scenes expressing her gift of service to others. She always made time to drive folks to church and various appointments, to provide meals for those in need, to lend a listening ear, and to give wise counsel to those who were struggling in life. She was also active as a volunteer in the schools where her children attended and active in Scouting. She truly exemplified in her life her favorite Bible verse: "He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." (Micah 6:8) God blessed Dorothy with a long and fruitful life in which she in turn blessed many others with her love for Jesus, willing service, lending hand, sweet smile, ready laugh, mischievous wink, as well as her listening ear and wise counsel. She is dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
