Eugene James Gelwicks

Eugene James Gelwicks, 92, of Washington, DC passed away on January 11, 2011 at Walter Reed Army Hospital.  Eugene was born on August 14, 1918 in Emmittsburg, MD.  He moved back to the MD area from Mt Dora, FL in 2004. Mr. Gelwicks served in the US Army for 12 years and during WWII. Eugene worked as a welder for Hoff Welding and other firms.  He was a member of the VFW and American Legion, MT. Dora, FL, and Boy Scouts.  He attended Gettysburg, PA High School, enjoyed working with seniors, mechanical work and playing the steel guitar. Eugene is survived by his loving children, James E. Gelwicks of Glen Burnie, Charles Carroll Gelwicks of Whitmarsh, and Betty Benton of Harundale; dear sisters, Celeste B. Evans of FL, Patricia Derr of FL, and Madeline Dawson of FL, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his parents, Ethel (nee Welty) and Joseph Warren Gelwicks; five brothers, Joseph C. Neal C. Joseph W. Cornelius J. Gelwicks and Cornelius Slagle and four sistersEthel A. Ireland, Helen M. Crandell, Lorraine M. Crush, and Mary M. Miller.
