Evelyn Lorie Shires, 86, a Calvert County resident, died peacefully on May 12, 2025, just one day before her 87th birthday. Evelyn was born in
Benfield, Anne Arundel County, on May 13,1938 to Walter and Ruth Anna (Pumphrey) Fitzpatrick. She graduated from Glen Burnie High School in
1957 and went to work in Baltimore at Kaplan's Jewelry store where she worked for several years as a secretary and salesperson. She helped buy jewelry for the store and did many other tasks. Evelyn had a great love for her church and Jesus. She loved horses and would ride in rodeos with her stepfather competing in barrel races and they would win 1st and 2nd place most of the time. She loved to go square dancing and had a love for dancing in general. She married Tommie Shires on January 16, 1965, and spent 48 happy years together. They moved to Calvert County and enjoyed being a part of the Calvert Pines Senior Center. They loved spending time with family and especially their grandchildren.
Evelyn is preceded by her parents, Walter and Ruth Anna (Pumphrey) Fitzpatrick; her husband, Tommie Shires; her brothers, Rudy and Walter
Fitzpatrick and her sister, Ella Mae Burson. She is survived by her daughter, Lori Ann Warriner (Joel) of Huntingtown; her sister, Nancy
Tyson of Mississippi and her two granddaughters, Jennifer Lynn and Erika Grace Warriner.
Family and friends may gather at the KIRKLEY RUDDICK FUNERAL HOME on Friday, May 23rd, 3pm-5pm. Memorial Service, Friday, May 23rd, 5 pm. Interment private.
