Franklin Keith Mccurley

June 18, 1946 — May 29, 2020

Baltimore

Franklin Keith McCurley was born June 18, 1946 in Baltimore, MD to the late J. Webb McCurley, Jr. and Bettye McCurley (nee Lawson). He grew up in Baltimore and Carroll Counties but spent most of his life in Baltimore City. As a young man Keith (Frank) was an avid stamp and coin collector, read a lot and enjoyed walking in the countryside. After graduating from Taneytown High School, Frank attended one year of college on a full senatorial scholarship at St. John's College in Annapolis, MD. At the end of that year he had a mental breakdown and for the rest of his life mental illness ruled. He worked as a landscaper for Montgomery County and then Greenmount Cemetery before being declared disabled due to mental illness. For most of the rest of his life he lived in Baltimore City, at first independently and later in various mental institutes, assisted living facilities and hospital or rehab centers. Keith's wry sense of humor presented moments of laughter that were lasting and occurred nearly as often as those moments when he stubbornly held fast to his desires and opinions. He loved cats, dogs, ice cream and smoking. Some of his insights were piercingly accurate.

Franklin Keith McCurley passed away at the age of 73 in Baltimore Washington Medical Center. Left to cherish his memory are brothers David C. McCurley (Linda) of Stewardsville, NJ, James W. McCurley III (Yvonne) of McKinleyville, CA, and sister Anita C. McCurley (Sandra Bromble) of Weaverville, NC. He will be missed.
