Geneva E. Burgess (nee Smoot) of Glen Burnie, died on October 26, 2021 at the age of 90 after a brief illness. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA on July 24, 1931 to Roger Lee and Caroline (Friese) Smoot. Moving to Pasadena in 1933, she graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1948 and was voted Most Athletic in her senior year. She married Frank "Lee" Burgess in January 1950, and lived the remainder of her life in Glen Burnie. She held jobs as a switchboard operator, bank employee and administrative assistant at the Rouse Company in it's early days. After the birth of her children, she focused on being a homemaker and as her children grew she became a frequent school volunteer, eventually being hired part-time as a teacher's aide by Anne Arundel County Public Schools.
Geneva enjoyed gardening, knitting and crocheting, sewing and a variety of crafts. Her biggest passion was her grandchildren, becoming a regular caregiver to all three of them from infancy to school age. She volunteered frequently at her grandchildren's schools as well as volunteering for their scout troops and other programs.
Geneva is survived by her children Linda Siegle (Sheldon) and David Burgess (Melody), grandchildren Christopher Siegle (Sara), Kimberly DeRubeis (Robert) and Harper Burgess, as well as great-grandson Luca DeRubeis. She is preceded by her husband Frank "Lee" Burgess in 1981 as well as brothers Roger L. Smoot, Jr. and Jerome K. Smoot.
