George E. Call, Jr., 85, passed away peacefully at Autumn Lake Baltimore Washington following an extended illness on March 1, 2026.
Born on December 15, 1940, in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, he was the son of the late George E. Call, Sr. and Minnie Staley Call. He was one of twelve children, growing up alongside eleven brothers and sisters. George was a proud 54-year resident of Severn, Maryland.
A master carpenter by trade, George built a long and successful career in construction, working on many notable sites throughout the Washington, D.C. area, including the Smithsonian Institute and the National Zoological Park in Washington, D.C. He took great pride in his craftsmanship and the lasting impact of his work.
Outside of his profession, George was a man of many talents and passions. He was an avid woodworker who enjoyed crafting furniture and decorative pieces for family and friends. In his later years, he developed a love for painting. George also had a deep love of music and spent many years playing guitar at various venues throughout his life, sharing his talent and enjoyment of music with others. A dedicated car enthusiast, he was a familiar face at car shows, where he proudly showcased his prized 1968 Shelby GT Mustang, earning numerous trophies over the years. He was a former member of the Glen Burnie Elks Lodge and also practiced karate, teaching students for several years.
George was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Agnes Call-Warfield; and his second wife, Darlene Joyce Gerkin Call, who passed away in February 2025.
He is survived by his son, Johnny Call of Severn, Md; his daughter, Mary Jane Latgis of Flintstone, Md; two brothers, Dale Call of Annapolis, Md and Rex Call of North Wilkesboro, NC; three grandchildren: Jason Latgis, Valery McCarthy, and Catherine Willison; and eight great-grandchildren: Michael, Anastasia, William, and Benjamin Latgis; Nathaniel and Audrey McCarthy; and Nicholas and Caitlyn Willison.
George will be remembered for his strong work ethic, creative spirit, and competitive pride at car shows, as well as his deep devotion to his family. He was equally known for being a caring and dependable neighbor, always willing to lend a hand or share his skills with those around him. His legacy of generosity, craftsmanship, and love lives on in the generations who carry forward his values, talents, and stories.
