Grace Marie Horner

February 6, 1934 — January 9, 2021

Grace Marie Horner passed away at home on January 9, 2021, with her devoted daughters, Betty and Janet, and caregiver Donna by her side.
Born February 6, 1934 in Mannington, West Virginia to Gilbert and Ruth (Ryan) Snider, Grace was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert, to whom she was married for 68 years, her dear daughter Roberta, as well as her brothers and sisters, Martha “Janie” Dodd, Clarence “Gene” Snider, Catherine Jones, William “Bill” Snider, Gerald “Jerry” Snider, and Charles “Sonny” Snider.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Betty (John) Harvey and Janet Corrado, her grandchildren Jennifer (Steven) Hugg, John (Chrisi) Harvey, Meredeth (Andrew) Rumsey, Danielle Corrado, and Christian Corrado and his fiancee Sydney Meredith Rice; her great-grandchildren Kaelyn, Rebecca, and Coltin Harvey; her sister, Laura Sypolt, and many loved nieces and nephews and their families.
Grace and Robert grew up together in Mannington, West Virginia and, after marrying, moved to Baltimore, Maryland, then later to Landover Hills, Maryland, where they raised their daughters. Grace was a homemaker who often picked up jobs that struck her fancy. A talented bowler, she worked for a time at the bowling alley where she would introduce her daughter Betty to her future husband John. She also volunteered at Prince George's Hospital and worked in the school cafeteria. After retirement, Robert and Grace moved to Glen Burnie, Maryland, where Grace was active organizing TOPS and Red Hat Society meetings and ladies' luncheon groups, and volunteered for the foodbank at a local church.
Grace was generous with a keen sense of adventure and she made everyone's lives — especially her grandchildren’s — special, organizing fun outings and trips for the family, and driving her grandchildren all over creation! Always game for an adventure, her family will never forget her hopping on a sled during a snowstorm at her and Robert's vacation home 'up the mountains' in Artemas, Pennsylvania, where they all remember her doing a "full flip, while still sitting ramrod straight!"
She was a whiz at videogames, winning over her grandchildren at every turn. An avid card player her entire life, she played computer card games voraciously as she grew older. And while she wouldn't have described herself as a techie, she was in many ways an early adopter: she left her family with a treasure trove of home movies, 8-millimeter and VHS (where her comedic wit was on full display, naturally!), and was well-versed in online instant messaging even way back in the '90s.
Her family will miss her advice, her strength, her raucous laugh, her straightforward common sense, and, of course, those marathon talks and phone calls.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Grace and Robert's wonderful caregivers, Kerry, Jamie, Donna, Darlene, Shawanda, and Heidi.
An outdoor service followed by interment will be held on Friday, January 15, 2021 at 12pm at Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Fort Lincoln Cemetery, 3401 Bladensburg Road, Brentwood, Maryland 20722. A celebration of life is planned for a later date.
