Helen Merilyn Smith

Helen Merilyn (Darney) Smith, 82, Glen Burnie resident, died peacefully January 11, 2015. She was born at home on July 24, 1932 to the late John Darney and the late Elzie (Myers) Darney in Baltimore, Md. Helen grew up in Landsdowne, moved to Glen Burnie in 1957 and has been there ever since. She was a crossing guard for Anne Arundel County Public Schools for over 25 years and loved it! She was a Charter Member of Peace Lutheran Church in Ferndale, member since 1958; Ferndale Road Runners; Ferndale Community Club and Red Hat Ladies. Helen loved to write poetry and plays; making wooden crafts; crossword puzzles; bowling; fishing; crabbing; camping; bus trips and traveling after retirement. Helen wanted to be remembered for making people laugh. She is preceded by her parents; brother, William Darney and husband, Paul O. Smith, Sr. She is survived by her children, Paul O. "Mike" Smith, Jr. (Rhonda) of Pasadena, Sharon Brown (Gary) of Elkridge; grandchildren, Gregory (Natalie) Brown, Kevin (Erin) Brown, Matthew (Christina) Smith and 5 great grandchildren.
