On May 5, 2009, Herbert E. Close passed away from natural causes at Gilchrist Hospice Care. Born on February 24, 1919, Herb lived in Linthicum since 1952. Beloved husband of 67 years to the late Betty Dorney Close; Devoted father of Craig Close and Susan Harding; Cherished grandfather of Tyler and Victoria Harding; Caring great-grandfather of Ian Harding. He was predeceased by his sister, Margaret Baer.
Herb worked as a mechanical engineer for Westinghouse until he retired after 42 years. He was a member of the Moose, the Masonic Lodge #101, Past President of the Society of Mechanical Engineers and was a member of the Alarmers. Herb actually became a certified E.M.T. while in his 70’s. He was also an active member of St. Johns Lutheran Church. Herb enjoyed genealogy and loved to travel. Some of his travels with his wife included driving to Alaska to pan for gold and exploring New Mexico and Arizona for opals and sapphires. They had been to Australia, New Zealand, New Guinea and all over Europe. Herb & Betty even lived in Holland for 3 years.
