James Jackson "Jack" Gentry was born April 18, 1926 in Warrior Mine, WV to James Arthur Gentry and Mary Elizabeth Gentry (nee Morefield). He left West Virginia to join the Navy where he served in submarine duty from 1943-1973 rising to the rank of Master Chief. Following his time in the service Jack worked at the Coast Guard Yard in Curtis Bay from which he retired. A member of the Submarine Veterans of WW II and the "Sea Poacher" Association. in his spare time he enjoyed landscaping and gardening, he took up painting in his 70's, photography, creating carved wooden toys and he treasured time spent at his cabin in West Virginia or with his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years Nellie Louise Gentry (nee Tomlinson)of Glen Burnie, Children Mark Alan Gentry of Glen Burnie, Cindy Lou Bridner of Ellicott City and Dr. Laura Ellen Weidner of Severna Park and sister Evelyn Lura Miller of Shady Valley, TN. Jack is also survived by five grandchildren and six twin great-grandchildren.
