James Alan “Jim” Hanes of Glen Burnie passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, August 29, 2016. He was born in Stockton, NY on April 6, 1932 but was raised in Erie, PA, eventually entering the U.S. Air Force and continuing to serve after discharge in the Air National Guard. He married Shirley P. Hanes (nee Peters) on April 28, 1956 and settled in Conway, PA where he graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics. In 1968 they relocated to Berwyn Heights, MD where he and Shirley raised their son, James F. Hanes who married Sarah D. Hanes and reside with their son in Glen Burnie, MD. His reputation for excellence as an Aircraft Technician was second to none and he proudly worked for Eastern Air Lines and later US Airways where he retired with a life-long love of aircraft. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of sixty years along with his grandson, Caleb J. Hanes with whom he had a special bond and who was the apple of his eye. Caleb gave him his greatest title of all, “Pop”. Jim also leaves a sister, Shirley Lundstrom of OH and a brother, Carl Hanes of PA. His example of what it means to be a faithful Christian man will be a legacy for his family and many friends.
