Born Janice D. Spriggs on March 14, 1937 in Leckie, West Virginia to the late Earl Jackson Spriggs and Mary Belle Spriggs (nee Billips). She moved to Maryland as a child and lived most of her life in the Linthicum and Ferndale area. She retired as a manager for the Social Security Administration at the headquarters in Woodlawn. Janice was a published author who's book "The Long Song" traced the story of a settler family as they headed west and involved the integration of the American Indians and Europeans, both their triumphs and challenges. She was also an artist, working mostly in oils and doing country and farm scenes. She traveled extensively attending many American Indian events, learning their culture and discovering her own roots. Mrs. Drexler also enjoyed making ceramics and pottery and had made ceramic dolls for family members. She treasured her family and they said "if you were a friend, you were family." She passed away at her home after dealing with dementia for several years. In addition to her parents, she is preceeded in death by her son Jason Lucas, sister Wilma Jacoby and brother Jack Spriggs. Mrs. Drexler is survived by her son Ken (Bud) Lucas of Murietta, CA, daughters Shawn A. Destelhorst of Annapolis and Jessica M. Martin of PA, a brother Ronald Spriggs of Linthicum, 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
