Jerry Lester Leonard, Sr.

Jerry Lester Leonard, Sr., 85, a lifelong resident of Glen Burnie, Maryland, passed away Monday, December 23, 2024, under hospice care at Baltimore Washington Medical Center.

Mr. Leonard was born October 13, 1939, in Baltimore, MD to the late Paul Lester Leonard and the late Elsie Gustava Leonard. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed golfing and playing softball. He also was a lifelong Orioles and Ravens fan.

Mr. Leonard retired after a full career with the US Postal Service. Shortly after retiring he received his CDL license and began a second career as a bus driver for Hubers Bus Service. “Mr. Jerry” was a favorite driver with students, driving for Anne Arundel County Public Schools and various bus tours.

He loved the Lord and served most of his life as a song leader with his talented wife accompanying him on piano and organ. Together they served several local churches, including Brooklyn Wesleyan, Cliftmont Wesleyan, Glen Gardens Wesleyan, Oakwood Wesleyan, and most recently Glen Burnie Church of the Nazarene.

Mr. Leonard is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathryn Reist Leonard, and his oldest son, John Irwin Leonard (Irv). He is survived by his son, Jerry L. Leonard, Jr. (Jay); daughter, Deborah L. Vogan (Debbie); son-in-law, Jeffrey P. Vogan; daughter-in-law, Kristen M. Leonard (Kris); grandchildren, Elizabeth R. Leonard, Danielle J. Johnston, Jennifer K. and Taylor A. Wilding, Robert J. and Rachel E. Vogan, Kyle T. Vogan, and Benjamin L. Vogan; and great-granddaughter, Noa R. Wilding.

Visiting will be held Saturday, December 28th from 10:00-11:00 am at Kirkley Ruddick Funeral Home, 421 Crain Highway, S.E., MD 21061 where a memorial service will begin at 11:00 am followed by a brief graveside service at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 5829 Ritchie Hwy, Baltimore, MD 21225.
