Jerry Lee Matthews was born August 4, 1936 in Baltimore, Maryland, where he was raised and continued living before relocating to Frederick 14 years ago. Mr. Matthews proudly served in the United States Army. Following his military service, he made a career as a truck driver. He was a member of the local Moose Lodge and formerly played on their softball team. He also volunteered at Baltimore-Washington Medical Center and Mercy Hospital helping in the mail room. In his free time he enjoyed being a collector, playing pool, going dancing with his wife, eating crabs, and watching football and baseball.
In addition to his parents Mr. Matthews was preceded in death by his son Robert Martin, and his siblings Florence Marshall, Charles, Bobby, Wilbur, Tommy and Stanley Matthews, Helen Smith and Liz Birely. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 46 years Melvina Mildred Matthews, children Kathy Martin, Roy Martin and wife Carol, Wayne Martin and wife Jessica, sister Margaret Porter, grandchildren Sherry Eller, Matthew Martin, Joe Trail, Scott Trail, Brandy Shadle, Katrina Arevalo, Twilagayle Fridley, and great-grandchildren Joe Eller, Jessica Eller and Rowan Trail.
