Joe L. Jacobs

October 15, 1934 — May 19, 2016

On May 19, 2016 Joe L. Jacobs passed away at the age of 81.  He was born in Liberty, MS on October 15, 1934 to Delos and Billie (nee White) Jacobs.  Joe attended Madison Ridgeland High School and graduated in 1951.  He enlisted in the US Army in April 1952 and was honorably discharged in April 1957 as a Sergeant.  Joe was married to his wife of 58 years, Betty Lee Jacobs.    Joe met Betty at a Civilian Club dance where he was stationed and Betty worked on base in 1956.  They would later marry at the Brooklyn Methodist Church in Brooklyn Park, MD in March 1957.  They honeymooned in Jackson, MS.  They bought their first home in Marley, MD where their son, Jeffrey was born. They later built their “forever home” in Glen Burnie where their daughter Kelly was born.   Joe is the former owner of several businesses:  Metropolitan Ambulance Service, Chicken Roost Restaurant Chain (7 locations), and Metro Recording Studio.  He was also a member of various organizations:  Glen Burnie Kiwanis, United States T-Bird Club, MD T-Bird Club, Lost In The 50’s Club.  He enjoyed many hobbies:  playing country music in his basement for over 50 years, dancing, antique car shows and watching Nascar races.  He loved his dog Bertie.

Joe is survived by his son, Jeffrey L. Jacobs and his wife Kim of Glen Burnie; daughter, Kelly L. Jacobs of Dallas, TX; granddaughters, Gretchen Jacobs Kelleher and her husband, David, of Pasadena, Brittany L. Jacobs of Madison, WI, Jessica L. Jacobs Freeman and her husband, Bryant, of Pasadena; great-grandchildren, Ayden Gailey, Sarah Kelleher, Chase Kelleher and Leo Freeman; and two brothers, Kenneth Jacobs and his wife Polly of Madison, MS, and Ramon Jacobs of Palm Harbor, FL. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lee (nee Coulbourn) Jacobs.

riends and family may call at Singleton's Celebration Center, 206 Crain Highway S, Glen Burnie, Maryland, on Monday, May 23, 2016 from 3-5 & 7-9 P.M.  Funeral Service to be held at the Celebration Center on Tuesday, May 24th 10:00 A.M.  Interment in Crownsville Maryland Veterans Cemetery to follow service.
