John Carl Bauer, Jr
(February 21, 1928 – August 11, 2024)
John Bauer, 96, passed away on August 11, 2024. Born in Maryland to the late Carl and Dora (Pfeiffer) Bauer on February 21, 1928. John was a member of the Glen Burnie United Methodist Church and was active in the men’s group until he moved to Mount Airy.
John had a long career as a mechanical designer at Vitro Corporation and also worked for the B&O Railroad in his early career. He and his wife Dolly worked together on a variety of crafts for church bazaars and craft shows, with his contributions in word working and painting. He enjoyed spending time sharing his faith and praying for/with those around him. In his later days at Lorien, he was beloved for his singing of hymns and his desire to always make friends. John and Dolly loved spending time with their grandchildren: attending school and sports events as well as playing endlessly with Legos, puzzles, tractors, and the holiday favorite activity of decorating Christmas cookies.
John was predeceased by his wife, Madeline “Dolly” (Zeman) Bauer. He is survived by his son, Howard C. Bauer and his wife Robin of Rock Hall; daughter, Laura B. Gillis and her husband Joe of Mount Airy; grandchildren, John R. Bauer, Julie M. Gillis, and Samantha K. Gillis (fiancé Timothy M. Nelson).
For those so desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Glen Burnie United Methodist Church in honor of John.
