John "Jack" Bryson Thon, Jr.
April 30, 1955 – April 29, 2025
John "Jack" Bryson Thon, Jr., 69, of Glen Burnie, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at Baltimore Washington Medical Center, with his wife and daughter by his side.
Born on April 30, 1955, in Baltimore, Jack was the son of the late John Bryson Thon, Sr. and Patricia Catherine (Ryan)Thon. After attending Mergenthaler High School, he joined the Army National Guard in 1975 and proudly served until his honorable discharge in 1982. Jack continued his education by earning an associate degree in Electronics Engineering from Anne Arundel Community College.
Jack was truly a “Jack of all trades.” A lifelong lover of music, he played trumpet in the Baltimore Colts Marching Band and later performed as a guitarist in a duo known as KC & JT. He enjoyed organizing and performing at local Open Mic nights, sharing his passion for music with others. His curiosity for technology led him to become a licensed Ham Radio Operator and the founder of his own electronics repair business, Elec-Thon-Ics. Jack’s enthusiasm for computers and electronics was a constant throughout his life. Jack was also a true pool shark who enjoyed competing in local pool leagues.
In his younger years, Jack worked a wide variety of jobs—from short-order cook to security guard, construction worker, and route salesman for H&S Bakery. He also held management roles at Domino’s and Dollar Tree. He greatly cherished his role as a stay-at-home dad in his daughter, Samantha’s, early years. However, his greatest professional joy came from his time as a computer instructor at Tesst College (Kaplan University), a position from which he eventually retired. More than anything, Jack loved his wife, family and friends, and his grandson, Logan—who will greatly miss his “PopPop”.
Jack was preceded in death by his father, John Bryson Thon, Sr., and his sister, Susan Thon. He is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Belinda Mae (Kolenda) Thon; his mother, Patricia Catherine (Ryan) Myers; daughters Stephanie Givens (Eric) of Hanover, PA, and Samantha Smith (Ryan) of Glen Burnie; twin brother Scott Thon (Judy) of Rosedale; sisters Karen Thon of Laurel and Leslie Bronstein of Essex; and his grandchildren, Madison and Logan. He is also survived by two nephews, a niece, and many dear friends and cousins.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Kirkley-Ruddick Funeral Home on Monday, May 5th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 6th at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church. Interment at Crownsville Maryland Veterans Cemetery will be held at a later date.
Jack’s life was a testament to kindness, creativity, and unwavering dedication and devotion to those he loved. He will be deeply missed.
