John "Jack" Paul O'Mara, Dvm

John ‘Jack’ Paul O’Mara, DVM, age 88, of Ellicott City Maryland, passed unexpectedly on May 7, 2025, at his residence surrounded by loved ones. Jack was born in Catonsville, Maryland on July 15,1936 to John C. and Mary Elizabeth Knight O’Mara.

He graduated from Howard High School, attended University of Maryland for his undergraduate degree and graduated with his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Georgia in 1968.

In 1976, he founded the Dunloggin Veterinary Hospital or, as he referred to it, his third child.  Through his Veterinary career he grew his practice to 5 full time Veterinarians; served as President of the AVMA at Georgia; he founded and served as President to the Elkridge Emergency Hospital, now in Catonsville; he served on the Maryland State Board of Veterinary Medicine as President; and after retirement, he worked with the Virginia Tech Veterinary School interviewing applicants to the program.

Jack served many roles as a loving husband, father, and friend. His favorite role was as Granddaddy to his two grandchildren, Kieran and Jack.  They kept the 88-year-old man young at heart. He would text them and his daughter, Brannon, every morning to tell them that he loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John C. O’Mara and Mary Elizabeth Knight O’Mara; his sister Jeanne O’Mara Burke; and his brother, Charles Jospeh O’Mara. He is survived by his wife, Judith Klingelhofer O’Mara; his son, John Paul O’Mara Jr and daughter in-law Lisa L.P. O’Mara; his daughter, Judith Brannon O’Mara; and grandchildren, Kieran Taylor and John ‘Jack’ Baldwin O’Mara; his brother Gerald Knight O’Mara; his brother James Patrick O’Mara; and his sister, Mary Elizabeth O’Mara Seal.

Jack loved life and lived to the fullest, he never stopped being a dad and friend. He will always be remembered for his kindness, his humor and his love for all his family and friends and how he could always be counted on, no matter the ask or need. While there is a hole in all our hearts from his passing, he will live fondly in our memories.

Visitation is from 12-2pm Saturday, May 24, 2025. The Service will be held immediately after at 2-3pm at Kirkley Ruddick Funeral Home located at 421 Crain HWY, S.E. Glen Burnie, MD 21061.
