On October 31, 2023, John Russell Smith, Jr., 73, Glen Burnie resident, died peacefully at his home with his wife by his side. John was born on August 25, 1950, in Baltimore, Maryland, to John Russell and Rose (Vetters) Smith, Sr. John graduated from Southern High School in 1968. He was a truck driver for Giant Food. He participated in The Giant Truck Driving Rodeo, which he was very good at and really enjoyed it. He also enjoyed being on FaceBook. He loved dogs but had a special love for the Cavalier King Charles breed and always had one.
John is preceded by his parents, John Russell Smith, Sr., and Rose (Vetter) Smith; and son, Edward Nuessle, 3rd. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Sharon C. (Eppard) Smith of Glen Burnie; his children, John Russell Smith, 3rd., (Deborah) of South Carolina, Heather Nuessle of Glen Burnie; his sister, Janet Davenport of Baltimore; his 3 grandchildren, Dylan Nuessle, Ciara Smith and Caitlin Smith; 1 great grandchild, Laci Riley and his dogs, Simon, Stormy and Pearl.
Family and friends may visit at the KIRKLEY RUDDICK FUNERAL HOME on Monday, 10:30am - 12:30pm. Funeral service to follow immediately, 12:30pm at the funeral home. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. For those desiring, donations in his memory may be made to the SPCA 3300 Falls Road, Baltimore, MD 21211
