John "Rick" Richard Thompson, 83, lifelong Maryland resident, died on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 under hospice care. Rick was born on Friday, October 18, 1940, in Baltimore, Maryland, to John James and Elisabeth Mae (Billhimer) Thompson. He graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1958 and went on to the University of Baltimore to receive his Bachelor's degree of Science in 1962. Rick joined the Army in July of 1963 and then transferred into the reserves until 1969 when he was honorably discharged. He retired from Baltimore County Public schools as an Operations supervisor. He was a religious man and was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church for many years. Rick was a member of the American Legion Post 0276 and the Elks Lodge in Severna Park, where he enjoyed his Friday night dinners and some music. When the kids were younger, he was a Pack Master of Troop 474 with his son and he also coached baseball. He enjoyed camping in Virginia and staying at the condo in Ocean City. He enjoyed family dinner night on Wednesdays and watching the great grandchildren play. He enjoyed time with his family and he will be missed by many.
Rick was preceded by his parents, John James and Elisabeth Mae (Billhimer) Thompson and his dear wife, Roberta Ann (Habel) Thompson. He is survived by his children, Richard (Catherine) Shawn Thompson of Glen Burnie and Stacey (Kirk) Marie Gardner of Pasadena; sister, Susan (William) Elisabeth Dobrzykowski of Millersville; his 5 grandchildren, Justin Gardner, Bryan Gardner, Ashley Connor, Quinn Thompson and Sarah Thompson; and 4 great grandchildren, Ana, Adrian, Emma and Dawson.
Family and friends may call at the KIRKLEY RUDDICK FUNERAL HOME on Thursday, 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, 11am, Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church. Interment Private.
