José de Jesus Moreno, age 77, passed away at his home in Millersville, Md., surrounded by family on August 2, 2017.
José was born in Tucupita, Venezuela on December 23, 1939 to parents Pio Rodriguez, Alejandrina Moreno and adoptive father Concepción Moreno. He joined the Venezuelan Navy at age 16 and traveled the world before settling in Baltimore, Md. On April 19, 1969, he married Doris A. Ramos. Lovingly, they raised three daughters.
As a mechanic and specialized boiler technician, he worked for Four Roses Distillery, A&P Corp., Tate Inc., and Rubber Millers, upon retiring at the age of 69.
José believed in having a festive home; filling it with love, music, and friends. He enjoyed traveling with his family, evenings at the theatre, and performing as a folkloric dancer. The ultimate family man, his pride and joy came from being a husband, father and “Papa” to his grandchildren.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Doris; his daughters and sons-in-law: Shari and Michael Miller (Hanover, Va.), Marisol and Michael Grap (Catonsville, Md.), and Leticia and Gregory Enos (Woodbridge, Va.); and his grandchildren, Ariell (Taylor/Milone), Elizabeth (Grap), Joanna (Grap), Joshua (Taylor), Anthony (Grap), Eric (Grap), Tomas (Grap), Andrew (Miller), Sofia (Miller), Hines (Enos), and Mila (Enos).
A memorial service will be held on August 26, 2017 from 2 – 4pm at Kirkley-Ruddick Funeral Home in Glen Burnie, Md. In lieu of flowers, the family requests to honor José’s memory with contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
