She was born Karen Marie Miller on July 1947 in Akron, Ohio, the daughter of the late Ralph Clarence Miller and his wife Mary Pauline Carpenter Miller. She lived in Severn for the past 7 years after spending the prior 16 years in Florida. She spent many years working as a beautician as well as a homemaker. Karen treasured time spent with her children and grandchildren, she was an Elvis fan, enjoyed casino trips, and dining out. She was an excellent cook in earlier times and she still enjoyed watching cooking shows when she could no longer able to work in the kitchen. Karen’s favorite place to visit was New Smyrna Beach, Florida. She lost her husband Donald Hugh Ashby two years ago and is also preceded by 4 sisters and a brother. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Maryjane Seay, Heather Ashby-Mills and Hollie Ashby, all of Severn, step-children Deborah Burks, Steven and Robin Ashby and Tammye Harold. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren with one on the way as well as many loving nieces and nephews. She passed away suddenly after being in declining health for several years. Her family will have a memorial service at a later date.
