Laurie enjoyed anything involving cats, spending time with her son Harry while exploring hidden eateries for breakfast foods—her favorite meal.
Born Laurie Ann Smith in Baltimore, Maryland, on October 12, 1960, to the late Philip Edward Smith and Mary Frances Brent Smith, Laurie was a lifelong resident of both Baltimore City and northern Anne Arundel County.
She enjoyed a long career as a paraprofessional with the Baltimore City School System, from Curtis Bay Elementary to her last stop before retirement at Augusta Fells Savage Institute of Visual Arts, where she supported students with special needs. Laurie enjoyed anything involving cats, spending time with her son Harry while exploring hidden eateries for breakfast foods—her favorite meal. In her spare time, she would waste hours on Monopoly Go or the latest Mix-and-Match game, while sending dozens of game help requests to friends. Laurie was an avid reader of Stephen King, and more recently Joe Hill, Richard Chizmar, and her own son, Harry Carpenter. In earlier times she volunteered at an animal rescue, caring for and often adopting the various delightful souls whom she cared for. She was a fan of music, and in the past attended concerts like Alice Cooper, ELO, and STYX back when they cost under ten dollars.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded by her brother, Mike Smith. Left to cherish her memory are her sons Harry Carpenter of Glen Burnie and Chris Carpenter of Baltimore, and her brother Kenneth Smith of Pennsylvania.
Donations may be made in her name to animal charities of your choice. Laurie cherished cats, most of all.
