Leroy (Roy) Edwards passed away on July 13, 2023 surrounded by his children; he was 89. He
joined Priscilla, his loving wife of 63 years, who predeceased him in January 2022, and who he
missed dearly over the past year.
Roy was devoted to his family, wife, two children, and four grandchildren; to serving his
country; and to his friends and the members of the local community. He remembered
birthdays, sent Christmas cards like clockwork, attended every milestone event he could, and
uplifted those around him with constant encouragement and a positive outlook. He rarely left
a room without making a new connection or recognizing a familiar face in a crowd, and it was
not uncommon that he run in into an acquaintance along a distant travel.
Roy was a sentimental man who thrived on routine and showed his love through acts of service.
He found joy in gardening, cranking up his old records, and feeding the birds. He had a mean
sweet tooth that his wife Priscilla enabled over their six decades together. He served in the U.S.
Army and, after his honorable discharge, continued his dedication to the country though a 33-
year federal government career where he was highly respected and took great pride in his
work.
A life-long lover of sports, Roy played on baseball and softball teams, had managed and
coached, and was a mentor to many youth teams throughout his life. As a young man growing
up in Baltimore, he managed sandlot baseball teams and was an avid life-long Orioles fan. He
keenly followed college basketball, especially his alma mater the University of Maryland. Roy’s
time in England turned him into a huge soccer fan, and he and his late wife Priscilla enjoyed
following Manchester United in the English Premiere League.
Roy is survived by his loving brother, daughter, and son, and four beautiful grandchildren who
he and Priscilla cherished.
A funeral is planned for July 26th. In lieu of flowers, Roy’s requests were that donations be
made to the National Kidney Foundation in his late-wife Priscilla’s memory and that
consideration be given to being an organ donor.
Family and friends may visit at the Ferndale United Methodist Church on Wednesday, July 26th, 10am - 11am. Funeral service to follow immediately, 11am. Interment Crownsville MD Veterans Cemetery, 1pm.
