Leroy James Martin, Sr.

Leroy J. Martin, Sr. passed away on September 22, 2015 in Shelby, NC. Born in Baltimore, Maryland to the late James L. and Sarah Catherine (Abey) Martin on January 31, 1931. He was a Maryland resident for many years until moving to North Carolina 17 years ago. Leroy was a member of the Moose Lodge, the Democratic Club, served with the Navy during the Korean Conflict and worked as a Finisher for Locke Insulator. He enjoyed watching Western movies, building models, any home projects and playing Santa Claus for the Glenwood and Glen Chester Community. Leroy is survived by his wife of 65 years, Naomi E. (Dovel) Martin of Shelby, NC; son, Leroy J. Martin, Jr. of Glen Burnie; daughters, Patricia L. Hilte of Glen Burnie, Myra F. Hutchins of Forest City, NC; sister, Doris Kroger of Glen Burnie; 7 granchildren, 11 great grandchildren and many step grandchildren. Friends and family will gather at the family owned Kirkley-Ruddick Funeral Home, P.A. on Sunday, September 27, 2015 from 3-6 P.M. Funeral services to be held at the funeral home on Monday, the 28th at 11:00 A.M. Interment in Glen Haven Memorial Park to follow service.
