In Loving Memory of Liga Krastins

Liga Krastins, formerly Liga Martinsons, born on June 17, 1945, in Timmerdofer Strand, Germany, peacefully departed from this world on December 8, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and unwavering commitment. Liga was the cherished daughter of the late Herbert and Augustine Martinsons and a proud resident of Maryland since 1973.

In 1981, she organized the Howard County Crime Prevention Advisory Board and served as its vice president, demonstrating her passion for community welfare. Liga played a pivotal role in organizing the first-ever National Night Out in Howard County, MD, showcasing her commitment to fostering a safer and more connected community.

Following the passing of her beloved husband, Uldis Krastins, Liga selflessly dedicated her time to Hospice of Queen Anne County, providing comfort and care to those in their final days. Later, she resumed her professional journey at the Maryland Department of Tourism, working at the Maryland Highway Visitor Center and BWI Visitors Center. Her infectious humor made her a beloved figure. She often joked her job was to tell people where to go.

Liga's most significant role, however, was that of a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.  As a grandmother, she never missed a school concert, volleyball game, football game, or cheer competition for her grandchildren Kyle and Adriana. Affectionately known as "Me Me," she was the family's biggest and most loyal fan, always present for both the triumphant moments and those when a comforting shoulder was needed.

In her leisure time, Liga found joy in music, watching movies, and caring for her pets. Devoted to her Latvian heritage, Liga carried the spirit of her roots throughout her life. Even got matching Latvian sun tattoos with her daughter in her early 70's.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded by her beloved husband Uldis Krastins. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Laura A. Scott and son-in-law John B. Scott Jr., Grandchildren Kyle and Adriana. Her love extended beyond her immediate family, reaching her sister Zaiga Terauds, brother-in-law Oscar Terauds, nephew Edward Terauds, and niece Vineta Terauds, who will all cherish her memory.

Liga Krastins has left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew her. Her kindness, selflessness, and unwavering support will be deeply missed. As we bid farewell to a remarkable woman, let us remember the joy she brought into our lives and the love she shared with everyone around her.

May she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love that she so generously gave throughout her life.
