Linda Margaret Schmidt

November 1, 1950 — February 4, 2025

Essex

Suddenly on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, Linda Margaret Schmidt, 74, Essex resident, unexpectedly died with her family by her side, while battling cancer.

Linda was born on Wednesday, November 1, 1950, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Konrad Kurt and Gretel Agnes (Balasus) Schmidt.

In 1962 her family moved to Germany where she graduated high school. They returned to the states in 1965 where Linda graduated again, this time from Northern High School in 1968. While still in high school, Ms. Schmidt received employment through the Social Security Administration and furthered her education at Towson University, where in 1976 she earned a Bachelor Degree and completed graduate work in Business Administration at Loyola College. She continued to work for the Federal Government for 38 years retiring in 2005 as a director at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Throughout her career Linda created many everlasting friendships. She was often having lunch with those that she had worked with, even after retirement. Linda always loved a good meal with friends/family and loved bread. After retirement she filled her days with the “walking girls” on Tuesdays, and a trip to DD afterwards; her treat to herself! And who could forget the many, many, O’s opening day games with the girls, Lu and Mary, and several games throughout the season. Linda always yelled “sermon on the mound” when the catcher, pitching coach, or infield players would visit the mound. So many memories at the ballpark and of course their trips to the beach. All of these and more will never be forgotten. Linda was a social butterfly and had the ability to talk to anyone. She truly enjoyed life and traveling. From trips to Key West, cruising and camping, it didn’t matter because she was with the ones she loved. This world lost an amazing woman but heaven gained an awesome angel. Linda will truly be missed by so many.

Linda is preceded by her parents, Konrad Kurt Schmidt and Gretel Agnes (Balasus) Schmidt, and her brother-in-law, Tom Gill. She is survived by her husband, Gary Doehring of Essex; her brother, George Schmidt (Martha) of Sykesville; her sister, Heidi Schmidt of Finksburg; her niece, Jessica Schmidt-Bonifant (Bobby); her great nephew, Graham and a host of friends.

A gathering to celebrate Linda’s life will be planned for warmer weather days ahead and will be posted when available. Please check back for updated details.
