Obituary

Luz Fernando Mateo, 72, passed away on July 11, 2026. A resident of Dundalk, Luz leaves behind a legacy of service to others and profound love.

Born in the Philippines on March 21, 1954, she was raised by her parents Marcelo and Cirila Blanco Fernando. After graduating high school, Luz pursued her passion for caregiving by earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. In 1979, she immigrated to the United States, bringing with her the skills and passion to fuel her lifelong commitment of caring for others.

Luz was a tireless and hardworking woman, often balancing multiple jobs to provide a brighter future for her family. A brighter future, especially, for her daughter Celestina. Celestina inherited her mother's love of caregiving - also serving the community as a nurse.

Beyond her professional achievements, she was a person of immense spirit. She found joy in her gaming community, where she was known as a "Pokémon Master." Luz also enjoyed shopping and sharing meals with her daughter Celestina, and took great delight in the company of her beloved grand dogs, Max and Jackson.

While most people would find Luz's intense medical treatments as challenging and exhausting, Luz will be remembered for her unwavering positivity throughout her health journey and the enduring love she held for her family.

Luz is preceded in death by her parents, Marcelo and Cirila Fernando. She is survived by her daughter, Celestina Lynn Agostini and her son-in-law Steven; her siblings, Nestor, Tony, Jesus and Magda; and her two granddogs, Max and Jackson.
