Makiko Cox

March 5, 1948 — December 25, 2024

MILLERSVILLE

With pain in our hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Makiko “Yumi” Cox , who left us peacefully on December 25, 2024, at the age of 76. Yumi was born on March 5, 1948, in Fukushima, Japan. She moved to the United States in 1970, where she made a life filled with love, resilience, and devotion to her family.

Yumi’s life was a testament to the quiet strength and kindness she shared with everyone she encountered. She provided administration support in the medical field for many years, but her greatest role was caretaker of her family. Her nurturing spirit and boundless love created a home where her children and grandchildren always felt safe, loved, and supported.

Yumi was a proud and adoring Mimi to her Sunshine and Rainbow, Evan Wade Cox (6) and Morgan Elizabeth Cox (4).  She found endless joy in watching them grow, laugh, and play. Her love for them knew no bounds, and her legacy will live on in their smiles and the memories they carry.

Yumi was married for 53 wonderful years to her late husband, Harvey Wade Cox , who passed away this past February. Their love was a true partnership, one built on mutual respect and unwavering devotion. Her grief at his passing was profound, yet she remained a pillar of strength for those around her.

Yumi is preceded by her mother Yoshiko Hata and father. She is survived by her son, Brian Wade Cox (Erin) of New Market, her daughter, Amanda Carol Hughes (Anthony) of Millersville, her brother, Muneo Matsunaga , and sisters Kiyoko Hata and Yumiko Abe , all of Japan. She is also dearly missed by her grandchildren, Evan and Morgan, as well as a host of extended family and friends whose lives were touched by her gentle heart.

Yumi’s love, wisdom, and warmth will remain in our hearts forever. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, grace, and the enduring bond of family. We find peace knowing she is now reunited with Harvey, and that they are together once again.
