Margaret "Phyllis" Walega was born on July 27, 1929, in Baltimore, MD, to Peter and Margaret Knoll Walega. Phyllis was a 1947 graduate of Southern High School in Baltimore, where she played basketball and defense only in the old six on six version of the game. She was a steadfast resident of the Point Pleasant neighborhood in Glen Burnie for the past 68 years and was a dedicated member of Good Shepherd Catholic Parish. Phyllis loved watching sports, especially the Orioles, the Ravens, and University of MD Men’s and Women’s Basketball. She treasured spending time with her family, supporting her grandkids in all of their academic and extracurricular endeavors, and vacationing annually with family in Ocean City. She also enjoyed reading novels and swimming (up to the age of 89!) at the SPRFC with a group of special senior friends. In addition to her parents, Phyllis is preceded by her loving husband, Marion G. Lewis, and dear brothers, Donald and Richard Walega. Left to cherish her memory are her devoted children Susan Sprecher (Peter) of Gaithersburg; Gordon Lewis (Patricia) of Linthicum Heights; Brenda Lewis (Simon Alexander) of London, England; and James Lewis of Rockville. Her cherished siblings and in-laws: Grace Walega; Connie Kalb (Bob); John Walega (Anna); and Catherine Lerie (Michael). Phyllis was the best grandmother (her most favorite role) to Joe (Mandy), John, Sam, Jack, Nick, Trent, Kate, Natalie, Jem, and Gavin. Phyllis was a loving Aunt to several nieces and nephews and a friend to all who knew her, near and far. Phyllis was a special and most kind soul. She was most happy surrounded by her family. Her family will miss her forever.
