She was born Mary P. Wannop on July 28, 1925, in West Palm Beach, Florida, to the late Walter Thomas and Pauline Scyzmanski. She was a Maryland resident for the majority of her adult life, but was also a Delaware resident for approximately 25 years. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Odenton and also of St. Jude Catholic Church when she lived in Delaware. Mrs. Dunning was a member of the Sodality of several Catholic churches, as well as AARP, American Legion and the Destroyer Escort Sailors Ass’n, She volunteered at the Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge in Milton, DE, and was a Foster Grandmother at Chapel Forge Early Childhood Center in Prince Georges County. Mary was an artist and a seamstress who enjoyed gardening and raising foster children. In addition to her parents, she is preceded by her husband Cecil D. Dunning, daughter Bonnie Jean Stewart and brother James A. Wannop. Left to cherish her memory are daughters Elaine Kingham (James) of Parowan, UT, Sharon C. VanMeter (James) of Severn, MD, and Debra E. Robinson-Phipps (Fred) of Spring Grove, PA. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
