Maura D'Souza, 95, Glen Burnie resident, died peacefully on Saturday, August 24, 2024, under the excellent care of Hospice of the Chesapeake. Maura was given the name Maria Maura Lobo, by her parents, Remigio C. and Virginia M. (de Souza) Lobo, when she was born in Rangoon, Myanmar, on Friday, May 3, 1929. Maura’s life traversed three countries/continents – India, Kenya, and the USA. Maura was a schoolteacher, first in Nairobi, Kenya and then at St Ambrose Catholic School, Baltimore, Maryland for over 50 years. She was also a Mathematics instructor at the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth for over 10 years thereafter. She was a faithful member of Christ the King Catholic Church, where she was a faithful parishioner and volunteer. Maura was also greatly involved with the Foster Grandparents Program in Anne Arundel County; something very dear to her. And she was an enthusiastic member of the Pascal Senior Center, where she dedicated her time with the Senior Center Plus Program and several other programs that they offer. When Maura was not devoting her time to her faith, teaching, or volunteering, she enjoyed cooking, listening to music, reading, sewing, knitting and doing sudoku and word puzzles. Her kind and faithful soul will be greatly missed by everyone that she has touched over the years.
Maura was preceded by her parents, Remigio C. Lobo, and Virginia M. (de Souza) Lobo; her husband, Xavier P. D'Souza; and her daughter, Mariette D'Souza. She is survived by her children, Patricia D'Souza of Rockville, MD Tess D'Souza-Magee (Tom) of Olney, MD and Delyse DeSouza-Rickard (Adrian) of Westfield, NJ; her siblings, Athanasius (Kamlesh) Lobo of Michigan, Margaret Lobo of Australia, and Lourdes McLeary
