Michael Jack Coletta, 58, a resident of Millersville, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 11, 2025, with his family by his side.
Michael was born on Sunday, August 21, 1966, in Jamaica Queens, New York, to Jack and Diane Coletta, Jr. As a child Michael loved all things Chocolate; chocolate milk, chocolate ice cream, cocoa pebbles, cocoa puffs, chocolate pop-tarts. He loved going to the rodeo, riding his big wheel up and down the street, playing with trucks, and going to work at the family scrap yard, Jack Coletta Inc, . He graduated from East Rockaway High School and studied Business/Accounting at St. John's University in New York. After growing up in New York, he then moved to North Carolina, then to Pennsylvania, and eventually settled in Maryland. Michael was an avid hunter, enjoyed cheering on the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Yankees, riding his Harley and watching NASCAR, and still loved all things chocolate.
Michael found success as a project manager/business owner in Exterior Construction Maintenance. Michael’s proudest accomplishment was his son Max whom he absolutely adored. He loved spending time with him especially taking Max to his grand-father’s hunting camp where they created cherished memories together. He was passionate about teaching Max his love for the outdoors. Michael had a great love for German Shepherds. From Duchess, to Riley, to Quinn and his most recent love Sweet Sofia.
Michael was a force to be reckoned with in his Sober Community. He was always willing to be of service, even if his approach could be abrasive at times. He loved being a beacon of recovery, and he never hesitated to help anyone seeking to turn their life around. With a huge presence in the room, he carried a tremendous gratitude for his life and poured his heart into recovery. Michael was sober for over 3 years when he was faced with the battle of his life. He fought AML with relentless determination, doing everything that was asked of him and attending every single appointment.
He was the biggest fighter with no quit!
In the end medicine failed him. Michael did not fail; science failed him. There was to be no cure for his leukemia.
Michael is survived by his parents, Jack and Diane (McConnell) Coletta, Jr. of East Rockaway, NY; his son, Max Coletta of Spring Ridge, MD; his siblings, Donna Fricke (John) of Yardley, PA, Suzanne Knab of Charlotte, NC and Maureen Conklin (Robert) of Wantagh, NY; proud and loving Uncle of George Knab (Jaime), Brittany Bogan (Josh), Patrick Fannon (Lili), Alyssa Knab (Mike), Matthew Knab, Katie, Jack, Joe and Nick Conklin; Great Uncle to Layne, Violet and Jaxon Bogan.
