Michael Philip Smith

September 21, 1953 — August 4, 2016

Michael Philip Smith was born Sept. 21, 1953 in Baltimore, MD to the late Philip Edward and Mary Frances Smith and lived most of his life in northern Anne Arundel County. As a young man he worked with his father and brother at Riviera Bowl. He also worked at Two Guys and was a night crew manager at A& P before going to work as a Regional Business Manager for Pillsbury, then General Mills. He was the owner of Express Employment Professionals. Mike received degrees from Anne Arundel Comm. College and University of Baltimore. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening, was an avid sports fan, following the Orioles, Ravens and Terps. His love of sports extended to coaching his daughters in both soccer and softball. Mike coached JV Soccer at Glen Burnie High School, Co-founded North County Comm. Girls Softball League and was East Zone Director of Pony League Softball. He also was on the board of directors of First Night Annapolis and volunteered with the Maryland Food Bank. The apples of his eye were his grandchildren, for whom he kept the closets and the fridge full of snacks. His family would say "Whatever happens at Mom-Mom and Pop's-Pop's, stays at Mom-Mom and Pop-Pop's". In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a step-brother Barry Lee Cobbs. He is survived by his wife Joann Marian Smith (nee Hagedorn) of Odenton, daughters Michelle Lynn Smith and her fiance Leo Brian Minton of Red Lion, PA, Amy Lynn McGee and her husband James Kilpatrick of Edgewater and Lisa Lynn Smith of Glen Burnie. Mr. Smith is also survived by brother Kenneth Allen Smith of Catonsville, Sister Laurie Ann Carpenter of Glen Burnie and adoring grandchildren Alexandra Flynn, Kate Olivia, and Ava Grace McGee and future grandchildren Sylvia Eleanor and Leo Donovan Minton.  Mike passed way at Johns Hopkins Hospital following a lengthy battle with health issues.
