Mildred Charlyn Horning, 77, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away peacefully at her home on August 10, 2026. She was born in Dundalk, Maryland, on July 17, 1949, to the late Charles and Madeline Himmelman. 

Char, as her loved ones knew her by, was the beloved wife of Allan D. Horning. She is lovingly remembered by her step-daughters Michelle (Elaine) Horning and Kelly Murray; granddaughter Heather (Kirk) Ruddick; and great-grandchildren Mackenzie Hill, Lillian Hill, Winston McDonald, Julie Ruddick and Brendan Ruddick, who lovingly knew her as "Grams." She is also survived by her nephew, T. Gordon (Diane) Brown, Jr.; grandnieces Kirsten (Conor) Kennedy and Catherine (Emerson) Lyons; and great-grandniece Clara Kennedy. She leaves behind dear friends Mike and Theresa Mall, as well as her cherished cats, Fluff and Penny. 

Char was preceded in death by her brothers, Gordon and Bob, and her grandson, Kurt Murray. 

Char built a successful corporate career before spending a decade in lamp sales at The Lamp Shoppe. After retirement, her creativity led her to start her own business, affectionately known as The Lamp Lady. 

A proud Dundalk native, Char was crowned Miss Dundalk in 1966, a distinction she cherished. She had a generous heart, particularly when it came to animals, and opened her home to stray cats throughout the years, including Tommy, Lucky and Gus. 

Char loved to travel, with Sanibel Island and Las Vegas among her favorite destinations. Las Vegas held a particularly special place in her heart, as it was there that she and Allan were married at the Candlelight Wedding Chapel on November 29, 1986. She was also a devoted fan of the music of The Eagles. 

Char will be remembered for her warmth, her independent spirit, her love of animals, her sense of adventure, and the special place she held in the hearts of her family and friends. Her presence brought light, both literally and figuratively, to the lives around her, and she will be deeply missed. 

Interment will be held Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Serenity Ridge Natural Burial Cemetery and Arboretum.
