Born Mildred Elise Merkle on October 12, 1934 in Millersville, MD to the late George Leslie Merkle, Sr. and Mary Mildred Burns Merkle, she was a lifetime resident of Millersville. She worked as a radar systems assembler for several defense companies. She was a longtime member of Christ Lutheran Church in Elvaton, the D.C. Hand Dancing Club and an early member of the Earleigh Heights Volunteer Fire Dept. Ladies Aux. She enjoyed playing Bingo and the slots, but the center of her life was being involved in the life of her family. She would attend any activity or game her family members were involved in. You could often find "Tooky" driving through the neighborhood on her pink golf cart. In addition to her parents Mrs. Barry is preceded by her husband John F. Barry, Jr. and her brother George Leslie Merkle, Jr.
Left to cherish her memory are sons Vincent L. Palmer (Bonnie) of Queenstown, John K. Barry (Sally) of San Antonio, TX and Chrishopher M. Barry of Dallas, TX, daughters Vicki L. Axton (Joe) of Millersville, MD and Deborah L. Parzynski Musgrave (Russ) of Bowleys Quarters as well as her sister Thelma E. “Betty” Roland of Millersville. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as many special nieces and nephews.
