Nellie A. Wenzel passed away on November 17, 2015 in New Wilmington, PA. Born in Baltimore, Maryland to the late James Lewis and Nellie A. (DeBaufre) Hawkins in June of 1920. Nellie lived in Maryland until 2009 when she moved to Pennsylvania. She enjoyed traveling, Pinochle, quilting, and knitting. Nellie taught the Special Needs Sunday School at St. Paul's Lutheran Church since the 1960's, delivered Meals on Wheels for 27 years, Volunteered at the Lutheran Mission Society, knitted preemie blankets, caps and booties for babies in University Hospital, and crocheted crosses for the Lutheran Mission Society. She is survived by her son, Alan E. Wenzel of Ridgeville, SC; daughters, Janet L. Luke of Ft. Wayne, IN, Esther L. Gold and her husband, Donald of New Castle, PA; sister, Lucille Cantrell of South Dakota; grandchildren, Adam Wenzel, Ryan Wenzel, Erik Wenzel, Justin Gold, Chris Gold; great grandchildren, Aryssa Shultz, Keelie Gold and Samantha Erickson. In addition to her parents, Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest A. Wenzel in 2004; son in law, David Luke; brothers, James Hawkins, Billy Hawkins, George Hawkins, Raymond Hawkins, Richard Hawkins; sisters, Gloria Rogers, Jessie Slivecky, Joyce Strine and Dorothy Hannan. Friends and family may call at the family owned Kirkley-Ruddick Funeral Home, P.A. on Monday, November 23rd from 3-7 P.M. Funeral Service to be held on Tuesday the 24th 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. There will be viewing at St. Paul's Lutheran Church one hour before the service begins. Interment in Glen Haven Memorial Park to follow service.
