Friese, Northam "Bill", 91, a resident of Sun City Center, FL and formerly of Severna Park, MD died in his home on July 6th. Born on September 21, 1922 in Baltimore to the late Edwin M. and Grace (nee Marchant) Friese. He was raised in Kansas City, MO where he enjoyed Boy Scouts earning the rank of Eagle Scout in 1938. He attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. While in college, he joined the Army and served with the Army Corp of Engineers eventually earning the rank of 1LT. He served during WWII in Europe and the Philippines and was awarded the Bronze Star. After the war, he finished his civil engineering degree. He has been heard saying his favorite job was surveying the levees along the Mississippi River while he was in college. He married Agnes Burnette of Allentown, PA in June 1948. They moved to Glen Burnie and eventually settled in Severna Park. He enjoyed a 30-year career with the State Highway Administration where he retired as Deputy Administrator. In 1992, his beloved Agnes passed away. In 1995, he married Martha (Marty) Murray of Severna Park and moved to Sun City Center, FL and remained there until their deaths. Bill enjoyed golf, reading, dancing, dinner theaters, genealogy and traveling. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club in Glen Burnie, the Golf Club and the German-American clubs in Florida. Bill is survived by: two sons, John Burnette of Fredericksburg, VA and Mark Friese of Riva, MD and a daughter, Carol Surgeon of Cape Coral, FL. Six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren also survive him. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Lifepath Hospice, 3723 Upper Creek Dr. Ruskin, FL 33573. (Please put Bill Friese' in the memo portion)
