Raul Ramirez Ortegon, 64, a Maryland resident, was called home on February 26, 2026. He was born on August 15, 1961, in Oakland, California, to Raul and Maria (Ramirez) Ortegon. Raul was a devoted father, brother, and friend, known for his dedication to family, service to his country, and commitment to his profession. Just as memorable was his sense of humor—Raul was often the life of the crowd, always ready with a joke or a quick remark that could make family and friends smile and laugh.
A proud high school graduate, Raul answered the call to serve his nation by joining the United States Army. His time in the military reflected his strong sense of duty and discipline, values that remained with him throughout his life.
Following his military service, Raul built a successful career as a Network Engineer supporting the Department of Defense, where his technical skill, problem-solving ability, and professionalism were highly respected by colleagues and peers. His work contributed to critical systems and demonstrated his dedication to supporting those who serve.
Beyond his professional life, Raul lived with curiosity and enthusiasm. He was an avid traveler who enjoyed exploring new places and cultures. Sporting events were another passion, and he cherished the time spent watching and attending events with his family. Whether he was on the road, at a game, or simply gathered with loved ones, Raul’s warmth and humor made every moment brighter.
Raul’s life was defined by service, perseverance, laughter, and love for those closest to him. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Raul is preceded in death by his parents, Raul and Maria (Ramirez) Ortegon; his son, Raul Aaron Ortegon; and his brother, Antonio Ortegon.
He is survived by his daughter, Waverly Lynette Ortegon; his former wife, Jeanette Ortegon; his brothers, Martin Ortegon and Julian Ramirez; and his sisters, Janie Ortegon-Martinez, Elizabeth Ortegon-Carreon, and Nicky Ortegon-Ferdin, along with many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
Family and friends are invited to gather to honor Raul’s life at Cano Funeral Home on Sunday, March 15, at 10:00 a.m. for a Celebration of Life service. A graveside interment will follow at San Joaquin Cemetery on Monday, March 16, at 10:00 a.m.
Raul will be remembered for his dedication, strength, and the love and laughter he shared with those around him.
