Richard Gray of Glen Burnie was born June 19, 1924 in Ragland, Alabama to the late Rubin and Elzora Gray (nee Kelley). He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1945 – 1962 during both WWII and the Korean Conflict. A resident of Glen Bunrie since 1969, following his retirement from the service he worked as a civilian employee at Ft. Meade repairing vehicles. He also helped friends and neighbors with car repairs in his driveway on the weekends until he just couldn’t do it any longer. Richard enjoyed caring for his home, his parrot "Gringo" and he cherished time spent with his family. Richard was still driving his car until he was 91 years old.
In addition to his parents Mr. Gray is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years Gerda Gray (nee deVries), brothers Frank, Norman Ray, Marvin, John and Larry Gray and sisters Louise Bice, Dorothy and Joan Gray. He is survived by his sons, David Gray and his wife Cheryl of Severna Park and Peter Gray and his wife Marianne of Severn, his brothers, Rubin JR., Travis, James and Albert Gray, his sister, Janette Pinkston, seven grandchildren, Tracy, Lisa, Laura, Sara, Karen, Amanda and Adam, ten great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Lindsey, Madison, Rylie, Haylie, Kelsie, Benjamin, Matthew, Allison and Jacob, great-great granddaughter, Josephine and his parrot, Gringo.
Family and friends may call at the family owned Kirkley-Ruddick Funeral Home, 421 Crain Hwy., S.E., Glen Burnie on Thursday, from 3-5 & 7-9 P.M. Services will be held on Friday at 12:30 P.M. Interment in Crownsville MD Veterans Cemetery.
