Richard William Van Meter

Richard William Van Meter was born on Friday, December 6, 1940 in Cumberland, Maryland to Albert William and Gladys Virginia (Bittinger) Van Meter. Richard was a veteran who served for our country in the Air Force. He was a hard worker who was employed by IBM for several years as a Systems Engineer. Richard loved the outdoors and everything it had to offer; hunting, fishing, gardening and a bee keeper. He also enjoyed watching the kids play sports and cooking for the family. He also was a huge Maryland Terps Fan. He will be missed by so many.

Richard is preceded by his parents. He is survived by his wife Donna Frances (Swartley) Van Meter; his children, Stephen W. Van Meter (Kimberlyn) of Hanover, Beverly A. Ross (Brian) of Landsowne, Arthur T. Van Meter of Baltimore, Mary E. Van Meter (Kimberly) of Brooklyn Park, Nicole L. Ender of Pasadena; his brother James V. Van Meter (Pam) of Martinsburg, West Virginia; 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held Thursday, September 2, 2021, 5pm at KIRKLEY RUDDICK FUNERAL HOME. Memorial gathering to continue after the service until 8pm. Interment private.

In lieu of flowers, family request donations to the American Diabetes Association.
